There seems to be a definite hype about crochet right now. Amazing people are coming up with gorgeous patterns and unique creations. It's a good thing that it corresponds to (or feeds) my own obsession with the craft.

And so... *drumroll* I have acquired crochet hooks! Their shininess makes me very happy indeed and I can't keep my hands away from them. Of course, since I am a complete n00b to crocheting, I have been diligently reading instruction books. Hooked on Crochet provides easy-to-follow instructions. I can now make a decent single crochet stitch. And I can't say enough about Craftyminx's Crochet School! School's out, but you can still access all the material and practice to your heart's content. Thank you, Craftyminx!

So, what am I going to make with my newly acquired crochet skills? Definitely one (or many) of these, some of these, and some sort of variation on these. .... Now excuse me as I go poke my hook through more loops.

P.S. - Yes, I did try storing my hooks inside the matryoshka doll. Nope, they didn't fit. I have to get over it and move on.

One Line a Day

A dear friend has given my husband and me One Line a Day memory books for Christmas. So far, we have religiously been jotting down our day's events every evening. No peeking into each other's books!

I must admit, I didn't think I'd get so addicted to this book. As a teenager, I tried starting journals a dozen times, but never had the patience to keep them up for longer than a week. As much as I love writing, I just couldn't do it (what am I doing keeping a blog, you ask?). Well, turns out that the "a-few-sentences-a-day" formula works like a charm!

I have been thinking of other ways to preserve daily memories. There are all sorts of beautiful diy calendar journals and memory jars popping up on blogs. Wouldn't they make thoughtful presents for your loved ones?

1. Calendar Journal from Wit & Wistle
2. Memory Jar from SteamyKitchen
3. Vintage Postcard Calendar Journal from Design*Sponge

Jaden, from SteamyKitchen, has a wonderful post about these and other memory-preserving ideas.

Do you have a memory jar/calendar at home? Are your children involved in contributing to it? Or are you more of a journal/photo/home video type? Do tell!

Oh my, she's got a blog.

If you are new to this blog, do not worry. So am I. I am glad you made it to my corner of the blogosphere! This is where I will post about original finds, diy projects that make me want to leave work and go home early, and all those small nothings that make a person's day. I am new to active blogging, but I am eager to learn. Also, I am hoping that this blog will make me stop dreaming about projects and actually bring them to life.

Keep you fingers crossed and stop by often!

P.S. - Friday the 13th is the perfect day to start a blog, says I!
